Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium Funding

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to help schools improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and provide additional support where it is needed. This includes children from families experiencing financial hardship, children who are or have previously been in care, and children from armed forces families.

There are different ways in which your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium or Service Pupil Premium:

  1. Free School Meals: If your child is eligible for means-tested free school meals, or has been eligible at any point during the past six years.

  2. Previously Looked-After Children: If your child is currently looked after by the local authority, or has previously been in care and subsequently been adopted or become subject to a Special Guardianship Order or Child Arrangements Order.

  3. Armed Forces Families: If either parent is currently serving in the regular armed forces, or your child has been registered as a service child within the past six years. Children whose parent died whilst serving and who receive the relevant armed forces pension may also be eligible.

Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal through the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. However, this is different from means-tested free school meals, which can also attract additional funding for the school.

From September 2026, eligibility for free school meals has been expanded to include all children whose households receive Universal Credit. However, not all free school meal eligibility attracts Pupil Premium funding.

If your family receives Universal Credit or other qualifying benefits, please speak to Mrs [name] in the school office. We can check your eligibility and explain how this could help the school access additional funding to support pupils.

Previously Looked-After Children

We appreciate that sharing information about your child's care or adoption history may be sensitive. If this applies to your family, please arrange an appointment with the Headteacher so that we can discuss how best to work in partnership to support your child. All information will be treated confidentially and with discretion.

Service Pupil Premium

If either parent serves in the regular armed forces, or your child has previously been registered as a service child, please let the school office know so that we can ensure your child's service status is recorded correctly.
